About Us
Welcome to Fonthill United Church!
We are a congregation of Christian friends, celebrating God’s presence
among us and inviting others to join us. We are like
an extended family in that people of all ages enjoy being together and
supporting one another as we live by our Christian values.
Our faith originates in Jesus Christ, and we want to continue the
ministry he began. Jesus reached out to all kinds of
people with God's love and that's what we try to do as well.
The mission of Fonthill United Church is to be an
inclusive community of hope, offering opportunities for worship,
learning and fellowship which inspire its people to follow in the path
of Jesus: loving God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, and
loving our neighbours, as we love ourselves.
We are a congregation of the United Church, which
is the largest protestant denomination in Canada. It
came together in 1925 as an amalgamation of Presbyterians, Methodists,
and Congregationalists, but now it includes persons from every Christian
tradition. The United Church is like a big tent in that it can be
inclusive of a wide variety of beliefs and opinions.
However, we all believe that God loves us and we want to respond by
loving God and by loving our neighbours.
Fonthill United Church
is a congregation with a long history (we've been here since 1842),
having worshipped in several buildings. Our current
building was modernized in 1991. It is completely
handicap accessible and we are proud of it, as we are of our history.
But living our faith in the present and becoming part of what God
is doing in the world today is what keeps us going.
As a community of God's people, we invite you to join us.
